Beijing and the Great Wall of China – Days 35 and 36

Beijing
Our time in Beijing was not very long, only two nights. Our hotel was close to the Forbidden City but far from everything else. We arrived straight from Ulaan-Baataar with the group that we had met at the Bayangol ger camp in Mongolia. After some rest from the train trip Ben and I set off to try the Peking Duck. We wondered around the city for a while and quite enjoyed seeing it by night.
The next day was our only full day in China. Early in the morning we headed to the Great Wall. The part that we saw is a very popular one and has been well restored. There were lots and lots of people. It was a very good trip. First we visited the tomb of a Chinese emperor. From then we were taken to the ‘government’s’ jade centre to see how work is done on jade and, of course, buy jade jewelery guaranteed by the official seal so we could trust it … We had a very good lunch at the Jade place and headed for the wall.
It is actually amazing to see the wall. How on earth they managed to build that in
Emperor Chang
We visited his tomb. A quiet place surrounded by forest. A resting paradise indeed.those steep hills? Parts of the wall itself are so steep that it makes it very hard to climb up or down standing. We had a great time and being with a group made it even more enjoyable.
After a delicious Chines
